Me in a Nutshell – by David Rowan

A number of people have asked me things like,

‘Who are you ?’ … which confuses my aspie brain no end – that is not a question formed with Mercury in Pisces in mind …

Or, I am asked, ‘how did you get into ‘all this ?’ … and every time I look back, the path starts from the beginning. I am always keen to give as full and complete an answer to a question as possible, but, rather than write a mini biography, here’s a brief answer to these questions …

in a nutshell:

born a twin – with aspergers syndrome.

Aspergers Syndrome remained undiagnosed and over looked; my twin brother died when we were 4 days old

10 – Mum became seriously ill when I was ten; a series of strokes and heart attacks left her severely paralysed and I became a child carer; washing and dressing her before school etc …

10 – saw footage of liberation of Belsen and freaked out. Wanted to know what the signs were in society so I could be prepared for it happening again – began to read up on the 3rd Reich and Marxism when I was 12 to understand the politics.

Bullies at new school meant I decided to stop going. Didn’t go to school enough times to be assessed – didn’t get a school report for two years – read Children’s Britannica … from Aardvark to Zeus …

Began reading Sherlock Holmes at 13 and was intrigued by how he unravelled events in his mind and traced things back to their roots or origins. Didn’t know I was unwittingly training my brain to do the very same (highly recommend it) …

Having read the politics, I then wanted to understand the people; and me – read Freud at 13 – didn’t like it, put it down

saw astrology at 14 – didn’t understand it; Linda Goodman spoke about the Sun as if it was what I was ‘meant’ to be. She didn’t explain that the Sun rises, so symbolically, it represents that which we are becoming; not what we are. The Sun rises through the day and we come into our Sun Sign as we mature. Her description of me didn’t fit the time I was at so … I put it down. Read more
