The issue we face with water is its purity; with over 200 chemicals found in a baby’s umbilical cord, one can only estimate the chemical composition of modern day tap water. Our legacy from deciding that the advancement of 20th Century would be based entirely on chemicals and plastics is that we have polluted our precious planet with toxic chemicals. The last place on earth to have pure tap water is Iceland, where all tap water is natural spring water.
The human body expels between 1.7 litres and 2.3 litres of water per day. Simply breathing expels between two and four cups of water from your body each day, increasing during exercise. Depending on your level of activity, you will expel another two to four cups via perspiration and between 1 litres and 2 litres when you go to the bathroom.
This water loss must be replaced, or the body will draw on its own water reserves. When the body is forced to draw on its reserves, it leaves our skin lifeless, our energy depleted and our cells desperate for additional hydration.
I recommend drinking a pH neutral, low mineral water with little or no taste. Start with one to two large glasses of water for your first two days, increasing to three large glasses by the end of the week. You may experience a little bloating during the first few days, if historically you have consumed little water. This initial water retention is completely normal - it’s your body holding on to, and storing the water it needs. Biochemically - once the body understands it is receiving a regular supply of pure water (this takes approximately 3 days) it will begin to release the excess water, safe in the knowledge that its on-going hydration needs are assured. As your body starts to release its water, so wonderful things start to happen, as your toxins, waste, and unwanted pollutants start being flushed out of your body.
Dehydration and Toxins
Dehydration leaves our cells literally gasping for moisture – particularly those in the skin as they are also subjected to the elements, heating, air conditioning and pollution. Without an adequate supply of water, your cells cannot replicate, rebuild or detoxify (i.e. the removal of synthetic waste from the body). This process of waste being unable to be removed from the digestive system, or the blood, becomes a vicious cycle whereby the cells cannot receive enough oxygen or nutrients to work or cleanse properly – leading to illness and disease. Oxygen and nutrients are delivered to the skin via a healthy, cleansed blood stream. Pure Water is necessary for optimal health of your body and your skin, providing a foundation for strong, plump, youthful and radiant skin.
Whenever your body becomes dehydrated it has to draw on its water reservoirs, one of which is your skin, leading to excessive moisture loss. This manifests as dry skin, which has lost its natural plumpness and radiance; causing wrinkles and fine lines to appear more pronounced and accelerating aging of the cells. Cell desquamation will reduce, leading to thicker skin that effectively sloughs off dead skin cells much slower. The result is congested, dull and aged skin.
Outer radiance flows from inner health. Pure water alone can slow down the aging process - consuming pure water is the key to healthy, balanced, beautiful skin. We are what we absorb orally and transdermally (through the skin). Pure water is fundamental to every cell in the body, and each of the skin’s functions.
Caffeine and alcohol both act as diuretics, meaning they steal water present in cells and increase urine output. In addition, high levels of caffeine or alcohol will prevent your body from making efficient use of the minerals and vitamins you ingest and deplete your body’s stores of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. As your water intake increases, your caffeine cravings will reduce leading to better quality sleep, less anxiety and irritability.
Alkalinity and the Skin
Acidity is the underlying cause of all skin conditions and the biggest threat to our naturally beautiful state, when the body is in perfect balance. Acidity causes inflammation, excess sebum, clogged pores, puffiness and contraction of the tissues. To re-balance the body away from an acidic state to an alkaline one, increase your pure water intake – it's that simple.
Water becomes alkaline by virtue of the fact that it contains an excess of OH- ions. Water becomes acidic when it contains an excess of H+ ions. When your OH- ions are balanced by your H+ ions, you then have neutral pH (no excess of either) ‘pure’ water. The pH for perfectly ‘pure’ water will be 7.0 however; any water with a pH range of 6.9 to 7.1 can reasonably be described as ‘near perfect’.

Final Thought: Water Has an Inherent Memory
Dr Masaru Emoto has shown in his books “The Message from Water” (Volumes 1-3) that water responds positively to both loving thoughts and words placed near or upon the water. This means that you change the quality of your water simply by the intentions you direct towards it. I intend love and gratitude towards my water before drinking, asking it to nourish all my cells.
