I don't eat 100% raw food, although I actually do really love It! I find that I am quite lazy to prepare things to make every meal raw. I make a smoothie or a juice here or there but I don't tend to have them every day. I do really love healthy and fresh food but now that I am a mum its a bit hard to sometimes put the effort in to make raw food dishes as often as I would like.
When My Food contacted me about testing out their weeks Raw Blitz I jumped at the chance! All that I had to do was give my home address and they took care of the rest.
The meals arrived by courier in a huge box (see pics below). It was sent with three meals a day plus the snacks + plus ice packs to keep everything cool- hence the huge box.
The meals were very neatly organised and came with a menu so that you knew what to eat and when. They were beautifully packaged (although I have left some feedback with the company to improve on this) and you could tell a lot of thought had gone into making the meals colourful, different and really appealing.
The menus are photographed in the pics below and you can also read the menu plan here from the website:
It is very cool to have everything at your fingertips and not have to prepare anything! you just take the meal out of the fridge, remove the plastic and dish up onto a plate and eat!
These meals were mostly absolutely delicious! There was only one that I didn't really like (the Veggie chilli as it was a bit bland) but everything else was really yummy.
What I liked about the meals chosen were that they would often come with a delicious sauce to go with it and the sauces were some of the best I have ever tasted. The raw sushi rolls were out of this world and very pretty. That was my favorite dish. And the pesto and avocado salad was fantastic too. The spagetti was delicious and I loved the spinach smoothie too!
I had a friend here who is very much into raw food and loved most of the dishes too. The only thing I didn't really like was the raw pitta bread. But my friend did so it might just be me that was being fussy!
The delivery came with a box of detox tea too and some organic raw nuts and seeds. The chocolate and fruit and nut energy balls were yummy too. Whoever the raw chef is, really knows their stuff!
There are a lot of great things about this service but also some not so good things that I want to share with you, and what the company is trying to do about it.
I was quite alarmed at the amount of waste from the big box and the plastic containers the food was served in. The big box was truly massive and I was concerned that most people would just throw away - yes it can be recycled but it still seems a huge waste. However, you could keep onto the box and use it if you are moving or need something big to be stored in it. Thats what I am going to do.
My food have used FSC cardboard on the labels but there was quite a bit of plastic. I have contacted them about it and they do offer a service where they pick up the used boxes, but you have to sign up to get a months worth of deliveries so for a once off detox week they won't pick up as its not really feasible.
Another thing that bothered me was that the majority of ingredients are not organic. There was a packet of organic nuts and seeds and an organic almond milk but that was all, although they do not claim to be organic on their site, so it's not misleading in anyway. I am personally all for organic food, especially when it comes to detoxing as the aim is to remove toxins, not put more into the body. And because I eat mostly organic food all the time, this detox was actually not a detox for my body. I asked them about not using organic ingredients and they said that it was to keep the price down for customers. I can totally understand this as to make raw food like this for 5 days, would cost a lot of money, probably the same price they charge for the service. I do think however, that if you had to do a type of home delivered service like this and there weren't any organic ones to choose then this would be the best, but for me, I would only consider doing it again if it were organic ingredients. But the food was amazing, most meals were just gorgeous and some of the best tasting raw food meals I have ever had.
I can see high end business people using this service regularly as they don't tend to have any time to eat let alone make their own meals, and I can also see it being bought for a weeks detox every few months.
I am glad that a big delivery company is spreading the message about raw foods as it is a great way to eat, especially for short periods or over summer. I just hope that perhaps in the future they can offer an organic service too.
To have this service for a week costs £175.00
