It's so important to keep toxic exposure as minimal as possible when it comes to our kids. Toys can contribute to unsafe toxin levels in children due to the chemicals they are made with. Some of the typical things used are quite scary so I always try and buy organic items. Dyes and flame retardants as well as the stuffing tend to be completely toxic in regular toys. I just love The Organic Toy Company - which is the Uk's largest online shop for organic toys. And, their price points and ranges are just fantastic!

After learning about the alarmingly worrying chemicals used in 99% of mattresses for adults, children and for babies, I have been on the look out for something that is going to be 100% safe for my child. I had a dilema though, the hammock bed that I had bought for my baby is not a normal shaped bed, so I needed something made to measure to fit it. I was changing my bed sheets the other day and remembered that our own king size mattress was made by Abaca Organics and wondered if they made mattresses for babies.

by Emily Lynne Ion Most parents don’t know that their child’s crib or bed mattress poses a serious risk to healthy development. A newborn spends between 10 and 14 hours a day lying on a crib mattress, whether sleeping, playing, or observing the world around them. Their faces press into it, causing them to breathe inches from its surface. For the first year of your child’s life, the mattress is the central object in their environment.
