I am loving discovering new and cool things through the Ethical Superstore website! I had heard of these Sun Jars and wanted to see what they were all about.
What they are is a high quality mason jar that has a coloured light on the inside that is connected to a battery which is then recharged by a solar panel. You need to put the jar in direct sunlight for a few hours to get enough energy to light up at night. If you put Jar outside in the rain, do not worry its very protected and water tight!
You don’t see any of the parts as they are inside the jar which is frosted. So all that you see during the day is a nice white jar or at night whatever colour jar is will shine through.
This one in pink, creates a lovely warm glow at night and I think would be fabulous for a childs bedroom! Whether they are a newborn or a fair bit older, they really do add a lovely hue to the bedroom/room at night.
Some children like to leave a light on whilst they sleep (scared of the boogey man!) which does add a bit of money to your bills! This light is so safe to use and I also think highly educational as the child grows older you can teach them about renewable energy.
I leave ours in the kitchen and it is nice to come downstairs late at night and not need to put a light on to see if I need to get a drink of water.
This product also won ‘Eco Friendly Gift of the Year’ in 2007 by the Gift association!
I would most certainly consider this a great gift to give someone, because its unusual yet useful. And, children are always fascinated by lights and pretty colours.
The Sun Jar is available in other colours and is priced at £19.95
