Can baby’s learn a language before they even speak? Well, according to this handy little book they can!
From the age of 6 months, you the parent, can teach your baby what certain signs mean. How amazing would it be for them to sign to you to tell you they are hungry or need changing or are cold? Takes away process of elimination doesn’t it?
Monta Z Briant has written a very cute little book (that will fit into your handbag or diaper bag easy peasy) which explains how signing works and also includes 60 images of baby signs! You learn them yourself and then together with your child. For example, if you are feeding your child, you would say the word ‘eat’ at the same time with the appropriate hand signal. After your child has learnt what they mean, she/he may then sign the word to you when they are hungry!
Imagine being able to communicate like this with your child, way before they were old enough to speak?! Wouldn’t it make your bond so much closer and your job that much easier? And how amazing would it be to teach your child to sign for when it’s feeling cold or in pain?
I am 11 weeks pregnant as I write this and I can tell you what, I am very excited to be able to put this book into practice when the time is right!
