Hypnotherapy With Pamela Crane
Hypnotherapy is a type of complementary therapy that uses hypnosis, which is an altered state of consciousness.
Hypnotherapy is now recognised by pretty much all medical circles these days as a very effective mode of therapy to help people improve their lives, particularly their mental well-being. It can be particularly good for helping break addictions and bad habits and improving low self esteem.
Hypnotherapy is said to have first began in around 1841 – although some say even earlier such as around 1027 – but gained widespread use in the 1880’s. James Braid was said to be the first person who coined the term hypnotism. He was a Scottish born surgeon and is known as the ‘father of modern hypnotism’
Whilst the experiments and research began back in the late 1800’s, it wasn’t widely known to be a technique that had scientific merit. Many people believed it to be purely for entertainment.
Today, hypnotherapists are no longer seen as people performing ‘magic’ tricks but instead now have the scientific backing of helping improve many health concerns.
Research has shown hypnotherapy can help with the following:
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Losing weight and quitting smoking
- Skin conditions such as eczema
- Insomnia and Sleeplessness
- Improve Memory
- Confidence Building
- Sexual Problems
- Comfort Eating
- Public speaking
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Pain Management
- Nail Biting
- Drug Addictions
- Plus more!
I decided to have a session with a local therapist in Forest Row, where I live in the UK. We have a wonderful community here, surrounded by Biodynamic Farms, A Steiner School and an array of very talented therapists and healers. I have met some of the most amazing practitioners here as the area seems to draw them in.
I heard about Pam Crane through a friend of mine who said she was very good at hypnosis and also did EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and Reiki. I always am impressed by people who have a few strings under their bow so to speak.
I can admit, I’ve got a lot of issues I need to work on, and coming from an unhappy childhood (where it impacted me with lots of health issues) means that me getting super well, takes time as I need to ‘peel’ back more layers that have been built up. So I’m always up for trying new therapies. I have had hypnotherapy a few times over the years, but I’ve never done it regularly.
What To Expect
Pam is an immediately very friendly and warm person to be around. She is very professional and goes through a questionnaire with you so that she understands very quickly what areas you need help in. Pam then tailors the hypnotherapy session around that information.
I had a session at an evening session at Pam’s lovely home in Forest Row. She has a very comfortable chair and the room has a really nice relaxing vibe. My session with Pam was great, I felt comfortable and quickly found myself deeply relaxing. Pam’s voice is very hypnotic and she really knew what to say to help me work on my concern.
Pam gives each client a CD with her voice on it to help keep the therapeutic effects to the hypnosis going. You are advised to listen to it every day for the most effect. It’s very easy to transfer to your phone so you can listen to it before bed.
I was so happy with her session that I am going to be doing some more each month in the next few months as I am newly pregnant and am going to be working on staying calm about my birth. I don’t know why, but I am a bit more nervous this time around having a baby, which is weird because I managed to have a natural birth with no drugs and it all went very smoothly. Perhaps I have fears around second time around because we hear all the time, ‘oh but its risky to have children after 35’ (I’m 38 in May). So I am really looking forward to having some regular sessions to help getting my mind into the mode where it tells my body ‘ you can do this, you will be ok, everything will go fine’.
It’s very important to feel comfortable with your therapist, and that you know you are in good, experienced hands.
I certainly felt that with Pam Crane and would recommend her to anyone.
