I had known for a while that there were health benefits of eating organic wholefoods, but it wasn’t until our family dog Rocky became terminally ill with cancer that my eyes were really first opened. The chemotherapy was ineffective and the vets wanted to put Rocky down, but after some in-depth research, mum decided as a last resort, we would change his diet from processed dog ‘food’, cooked meat, pasta and rice, to how dogs would eat in their natural environment in the wild. It not only healed him, but it gave him more strength and energy than ever before. (Read Dr Billingsworth’s Give Your Dog a Bone for some ideas)
We fed him only organic raw food and after a short time period he had made a complete recovery. After this, my family realised first hand the benefits of organic, unprocessed food and how the body can self heal with diet. We gradually brought it into our diets as well. As a result of Rocky’s changes and some of my own I was hungry for more information.
After a busy time in my life I took myself away from the world to a beautiful organic retreat in the Gold Coast Hinterland (Gwinganna). It was there, surrounded by others interested in organic food and healthy lifestyle, particularly some exceptional practitioners that I decided I would make come back and make permanent lifestyle changes including eating organically. This would enable me to feel healthy and happy, avoiding any more visits to the doctor for medication to mask symptoms of an unhealthy diet and lifestyle. The more organic and less processed food that I ate the better I felt, moved and thought. I started to look (and feel) younger too! From this point, my health became my #1 priority.
I have been inspired and am thankful for the influence of many people who have helped shape my philosophy and relationship to food and health and I started Miss Organic Home Delivery Service to share these messages to as many people as possible.
Whilst studying to be a primary school teacher and becoming more interested in this health philosophy, I completed a holistic nutrition and lifestyle coaching course through the CHEK Institute, who's ideology I became aligned with at the time. I benefitted greatly from the teachings and active, supportive community in Sydney. From then I have continually buried my nose in many books to discover more and have experienced further health shifts by experimenting with different ideas and concepts. This led me to thrive on a raw, organic, vegan diet. My experience with teaching children on the sporting field and in the classroom has made me realise that children need to be provided with a healthier start to life and this is what drove me to make a difference in with Miss Organic.
My passion for nourishing others and desire to pass on information and advice about real health led me to start an organic delivery business in Sydney. A sea change brought me to Melbourne in 2008 and I have really enjoyed the experience of being part of a healthy, enthusiastic organic community here in Melbourne.
Miss Organic was created so that I can share my enthusiasm for health and vitality with you by providing you with nourishing foods that I know you will enjoy and provide you with practical information that can be easily applied even in the busiest of lifestyles. I know now that health is our greatest asset and we have full responsibility for our wellbeing. Thank you Rocky and all my teachers :)
