Balcombe Protectors In Court Tuesday

The trial of 9 protectors arrested for defending Sussex from fracking, when Cuadrilla drilled in Balcombe last summer, begins on Tuesday (7th Jan), is likely to last for 3 days. A solidarity demonstration is being held from 9am on Tues at Brighton Magistrates Court, Edwards St, Brighton. Spread the word!

Last summer fracking company Cuadrilla Resources attempts to push forward their agenda in Sussex were met with a 2 month long community blockade of their site at Balcombe. Residents of Balcombe, Sussex – with the support of protectors from all over the UK and beyond – successfully slowed and stopped the frackers.

During that period well over 120 arrests were made. Some of the first to be arrested are on trial next week in Brighton. Just as we must resist EVERY well that fracking companies attempt to drill, we must support EVERY individual who puts their body in the way to protect others.

On the Friday 26th July 2013 on the second day of the community blockade of the Cuadrilla Resources fracking site at Balcombe in Sussex more than 100 police moved in and violently arrested 11 people, torturing some with “pain compliance” techniques. They then began to force fracking trucks through the community blockade.

On Tuesday 7th Jan 2014 the trial begins of 9 people, arrested on 26th July and charged with obstruction of the public highway, begins in Brighton Magistrates Court. There will be a solidarity demonstration outside the court from 9am. Bring Banners and messages of support. Lets show some love and make this BIG!

If you can’t make it to Brighton but would still like to show your support, do consider holding some sort of solidarity demonstration wherever you live.
